Job Title Area Coordinator
Job Description Job Guidelines - 7199 Head Child Care Teacher (Area Coordinator) This position has the responsibility for planning, implementing, assessing and oversight of two early childhood classrooms and an assigned outdoor area of the University Child Development Center (UMCDC); for oversight and communicating Center policies and procedures; implementation of licensing (Rule 3) statutes with teaching staff and in the classroom environment (e.g. treatment of children and incident reports); maintaining NAEYC accreditation standards; orienting, evaluating and supervising staff in the assigned classrooms (2) according to “progressive management” and in regard to curriculum, instruction, and assessment of children. TYPICAL TASKS: (These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this class). 80% - Management Responsibilities and tasks: •Scheduling staff (including your daily floor time) to maintain requisite staff to child ratios in each assigned classroom as per Licensing & Accreditation & group sizes, also, to provide scheduled staff breaks and office time for assessment and curriculum development. •Oversight of the indoor and outdoor, assigned and shared environments, multi-purpose room for health, safety, and rich environment for sensory experiences, exploration and problem solving. Daily health & safety check, •Oversight, checking, and reviewing of hours by assigned area staff members & give to UMCDC Administrator. •Reads and applies UMCDC’s Risk Reduction plan. Takes preventive measures and checks materials, furniture and play equipment for regular maintenance and repair to ensure a healthy, safe, comfortable and attractive environment for children and staff. •Attends weekly staff meeting with the director, education coordinator and other Head Teachers. •Incorporates best practices in early childhood (as outlined in the NAEYC Accreditation standards and “Developmentally Appropriate Practice” book & DVD) into the classrooms, foyer, flex, and multi-purpose room and outdoor spaces. •Participates in all Center staff development days, as per MN DHS Licensing, maintains records of continuing education as per Licensing to maintain teaching license and oversees records for assigned area teaching staff. •Communicates with parents and ensures message consonance with Center policies, procedures, the Parent and Staff Handbooks and via communication reflects partnership with parents. •Participates in strategic planning and serves as a co-chair on one committee e.g. curriculum, parents, science/nature. •Maintains full compliance with NAEYC Accreditation and MN DHS Licensing and is responsible for paperwork and documentation in your assigned area. •Identifies, observes, documents confers with parents and teaching staff and to address challenging behavior(s) and/or special needs with the child (strategies), parents, teaching staff and/or appropriate schools districts. Oversee and/or develops plan to address these behaviors. 20% - Supervision •Supervises teaching staff and student childcare workers in the assigned area. •Orients and trains/coaches, conducts performance evaluations, handles performance issues/disciplinary action, and resolves (includes investigation and documentation). •Ensures maintenance of continuing education records by staff as required by NAEYC and the State of MN to maintain license.
